Wiper Patriotic Front Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has stepped up his onslaught on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), urging the party to take a stand on where they stand as far as their position in the broad-based government is concerned.

In a statement shared on its X page on Saturday, August 16, 2025, Kalonzo reiterated his stance that if the party attends the joint Parliamentary Group meeting with UDA, it will be tantamount to consummating the marriage with the ruling outfit.

The politician therefore observed that ODM should proceed to vacate its duties as the opposition in the national assembly.

“This behaviour by ODM being with one leg in the opposition and the other with Ruto. They need to make a decision now. I hear they have been called for a joint PG meeting with Ruto,” Kalonzo stated.

“ODM has one leg in the government and one leg in the opposition. They should do the honorable thing—should they consummate the marriage on Monday to UDA with a Joint PG—and vacate the offices of the Minority, including Leader and Chief Whip of both Houses,” a statement from the party affirming Kalonzo’s stance stated.

The sentiments by the Wiper party come after Kalonzo challenged ODM to consider surrendering their role as opposition in the National Assembly if they hold the joint meeting with UDA.

Speaking at the LSK conference in Kwale on Friday, August 15, 2025, Kalonzo argued that the move will be in line with the spirit of orderliness.

“If you (Sifuna) attend that meeting at the state house on Monday, it will be for the good order and love of this country and governance and supremacy of our institutions that ODM acts,” he explained.

Ready to execute opposition role

The Wiper boss added that members of the opposition outfit remain keen on assuming their role of overseeing the government after Raila Odinga and his Orange Democratic Movement closed ranks with the Kenya Kwanza regime.

“They should move and join together so that we know the opposition within the opposition has a responsibility to have a new team. We have able and competent legislators like Babu Owino, who is here,” he stated.
