Kalonzo slams Ruto for using Murkomen to frustrate opposition leaders

By , February 24, 2026

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has accused President William Ruto of using his security officials, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, to frustrate opposition activities.

Speaking to members of the press on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Kalonzo maintained that despite the frustrations, Kenyans are united in making Ruto’s regime a one-term government.

Ruto anatumia Waziri wake Murkomen na PS wake wa Usalama Omollo …sasa wanajaribu kila njia kuharibu mikutano ya upinzani,” Kalonzo said.

“The thing we are witnessing with William Ruto’s administration is desperation, so what we are telling him is that the country is galvanised in one agenda: that William Ruto will serve one term,” he added.

Kalonzo calls out Police

His remarks sparked days after he came out, lashing out at the police officers after tear gas was fired into a crowd he was set to address alongside the United Opposition leaders.

In a statement on his official X account on Monday, February 16, 2026, Kalonzo explained that the incident happened shortly after a meeting with the Kenya Police Service Inspector General.

“Barely moments after leaving the office of the Kenya Police Service Inspector General, where we had gone peacefully, lawfully, and in good faith to demand accountability, we were once again met with teargas and brute force. Our only intention was to walk to Tea Room Nairobi and address Kenyans in a calm, peaceful gathering,” Kalonzo said.

“There was no provocation. There was no violence. There were only citizens and their leaders exercising their constitutional right to assemble and to speak.
Yet once again, the response of the State was force,” Kalonzo stated.

Murkomen’s remarks on Othaya

Kalonzo’s outcry came weeks after the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen had condemned the disruption of a service at Witima ACK Church in Othaya, Nyeri County, which was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The church service was disrupted after persons believed to be police officers in plain clothes began lobbing teargas and firing gunshots.

In a statement , Murkomen condemned the breach of the church’s sanctity, characterising the events as a direct assault on democratic values.

“Violence anywhere, and least of all in a place of worship, is unacceptable,” said the Interior CS.

At the time, Murkomen said he had since held discussions with Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to ensure a comprehensive investigation is conducted immediately and perpetrators brought to book.

“The police must move without fear or favour and deal decisively with the sponsors and perpetrators of this act without regard to their status in society or political affiliation,” Murkomen added.
