Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced plans to forge an alliance with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua.

This coalition, according to Kalonzo, aims to address critical issues facing the nation.

Speaking in Kirinyaga on February 22, 2025, Kalonzo expressed deep concern about various national challenges, particularly in healthcare and education, which he identified as key motivators for the proposed alliance.

He criticized the government for its failure to tackle significant economic issues that are affecting ordinary Kenyans.

“Kenya is in a bad place. SHIF is not working, and parents can no longer afford university fees, making higher education inaccessible to children from poor families. That is why I will stand with my colleagues—Martha Karua, Rigathi Gachagua, and Uhuru Kenyatta—to unite our people and ensure Kenya moves forward,” Kalonzo stated.

He compared the upcoming political contest to the country’s historical fight for independence, vowing it would not merely be about leadership but a battle to reclaim the nation.

“This time, it’s about liberation. It won’t be just another election; it will be a rescue mission, just as our founding fathers like Dedan Kimathi fought against colonial rule until the British left. Ruto cannot intimidate Kenyans,” he added.

Building momentum

The announcement follows a series of strategic political meetings.

On February 19, 2025, Kalonzo met with Gachagua and DAP-Kenya Party leader Eugene Wamalwa in Nairobi, where they discussed the current political landscape.

“I enjoyed a cup of Kenyan tea with my friends, Second Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya @rigathi and @DAP_Kenya Party Leader @EugeneLWamalwa, in Nairobi earlier today. Together we compared notes and shared our thoughts about the current political situation in the country, region, and continent,” Kalonzo stated on his X account on February 19, 2025.

These recent meetings build on earlier political developments, notably the January 27, 2025, launch of DAP-K’s new headquarters, which brought together Kalonzo, Wamalwa, and Gachagua.

The January 27, 2025, discussions marked a significant shift in political alignments, with the leaders present emphasizing the necessity for unity to challenge the current administration in the upcoming 2027 elections.
