Kalonzo: Plunder of public resources will end when United Opposition takes over
Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has blasted the current administration under President William Ruto for plundering public resources, saying the United Opposition have a solution to corruption in the country.
Speaking on Friday, September 5, 2025, while hosting dons from 23 public universities and 30 student leaders at Kithimani, Yatta constituency in Machakos County, the former deputy president dismissed Ruto’s recent affirmation that the country is doing well economically, adding that the current regime has instead made life harder for Kenyans.
”I have heard President Ruto say that his economic model works. But I ask, working for whom? Millions of Kenyans cannot afford a meal on the table. Our public universities are collapsing, and the dignity of being a student in this country has been reduced to misery,” Kalonzo said.
Last month, President William Ruto and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Raila Odinga led the country in marking 15 years since the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution, a move that Kalonzo has termed meaningless if the implementation of the same Constitution is proving difficult for the government in place.
Katiba Day celebration meaningless
Kalonzo added that it is ironic for President Ruto to embrace Katiba Day, established to celebrate the promulgation of the 2010 Kenyan Constitution on August 27 of every year, when he opposed it in the first place. This day serves as a moment for Kenyans to reflect on and reaffirm their commitment to the principles and spirit of the Constitution.
Recent presidential declarations and official acknowledgements from ministries like Defence and Interior mark the formal inauguration and observance of this day, emphasising its significance in safeguarding constitutional principles against political manoeuvring.
”Education is a constitutional right. However, seeing Ruto and his newfound allies celebrating Katiba Day, I felt pity because he himself opposed this constitution. Kenyans, let us be clear: a constitution without constitutionalism is meaningless because the Bill of Rights affirms the dignity and freedoms of our people, which is why we firmly oppose political intolerance.” Kalonzo added.
On matters of corruption, Kalonzo said: ”We must also confront the monster of corruption head-on. The insatiable greed for land grabbing and the plunder of public resources must end. And it will end when the United Opposition takes power in 2027. My fellow Kenyans, the United Opposition will never be broken. We remain strong and resolute. Kenyans cannot be betrayed through disunity, especially now, when they need us most.”
