‘Kalonzo needs a Kibaki Tosha moment’ – Saboti MP Caleb Amisi on Kalonzo chances for presidency

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has weighed in on the prospect of Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidency.
In a candid statement of appraisal sent via his X account on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the lawmaker revealed his great admiration for the leader but expressed his reluctance to support his bid for the top job.
Amisi opines that a successful stab for the presidency by Kalonzo lies beyond him, adding that the former vice president will need support akin to the famous endorsement of Mwai Kibaki by Raila Odinga and other politicians from the then National Alliance Rainbow Coalition (NARC).
The move not only proved a masterstroke in Kenyan politics, sending Mwai Kibaki to State House in 2002 but also ended KANU’s 39-year-old regime as well as a 24-year-old rule by Daniel Arap Moi.
Kibaki tosha
“I have great respect for Kalonzo, I wish I could vote him in, but honestly, he has failed to take advantage of a loophole in the Ruto’s administration and mobilise the nation. He has either completely failed or failed completely. He now needs a Kibaki tosha like moment or he forget about the presidency! Mimi ni kusema tu ukweli!” Amisi said.

Citing a case of former Mwingi North MP’s inability to decisively act and to his advantage, Amissi references Kalonzo’s failure to mobilise the country by exploiting ‘a loophole in Ruto’s administration.
Amisi’s remarks come amid an emerging crowded crop of politicians striving to prove their case to the electorates as the best suited to replace the president. The pool comprises of Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
With heightened calls for the group to close ranks and front a united pact against Ruto, Musyoka has been fast to defend his status as the best choice and the ticket to send the president packing citing his political experience.
Kalonzo started his political career as Kitui North MP and rose to vice president under President Mwai Kibaki. He has served the cabinet as minister for Home Affairs, Education among others on separate occasions.
“If there is any leader with more experience than me, we can have a discussion. The 2027 general election is the best time for me to take over the country’s leadership to turn it around for the better after which we will hand over leadership of the nation to the young generation when our term ends,” said Kalonzo.
