Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has named Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as its new party leader following a joint meeting of the coalition’s top organs chaired by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The leadership changes, which have been necessitated by evolving political circumstances, were confirmed in correspondence from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), which acknowledged receipt of resolutions adopted during a joint session of the Azimio Council and the National Coalition Executive Council held on Monday, February 2, 2026.

“This Office acknowledges receipt of your letter dated 2nd February 2026, on the joint meeting of the Azimio Council and the National Coalition Executive Council of 2nd February 2026,” the letter signed by Registrar of Political Parties John Cox Lorionokou reads.

Key changes

In the new changes, Suna East MP and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed, who served as Azimio Secretary General, has been replaced by Suba MP Caroli Omondi.

The ORPP, in its letter, confirmed that it received documentation relating to the removal of Junet.

“This Office acknowledges receipt of a letter dated 2nd February addressed to Hon. Junet Mohamed on his removal from the office of the Secretary General,” the ORPP stated.

Additionally, former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia has been named Azimio’s Executive Director.

Regularise changes

In its letter, the registrar advised the coalition to regularise the changes in line with the law.

“The political party is advised to publish the change of officials in line with Section 20 of the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D,” Lorionokou added.

This move is expected to reposition and revitalise the coalition as it seeks to strengthen internal cohesion and sharpen its national political agenda ahead of the 2027 polls.
