Kalonzo blasts govt over insatiable appetite for loans
By Joel Masibo, October 10, 2025Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has blasted the Kenya Kwanza regime, led by President William Ruto, for what he terms its insatiable appetite for loans.
Speaking during the Wiper Party National Delegates Conference held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the historic Uhuru Park, the former vice president faulted the present administration for the ballooning national debt that has held the country hostage.
As he marked three years in office in September 2025, President William Ruto has so far borrowed Ksh3.5 trillion. Economists now warn that the rising debt is unhealthy for the country amid economic challenges.
”What about this regime’s insatiable appetite for loans upon loans upon loans? Kenya’s public debt under this regime has become an albatross around our necks. They call it “Bottom-Up Economics,” but what we see is bottomless corruption and top-down greed. It is not an economic plan; it is an economic funeral. This regime has attempted to capture all institutions to do its unconstitutional bidding. They have captured Parliament, and that is why today it stands impeached,” Kalonzo said.

The Wiper Party chief also faulted the government for trying to gag the media and control the Judiciary in its independence, a key arm of the government.
”They have tried to capture the media. And today, we thank the majority of the press for not bowing to that pressure. They have attempted to capture the Judiciary. We ask you not to cede to this nefarious regime’s attempt to undermine you, for justice and truth are the common ties of society. Worse still is this regime’s three-year dismantling of our celebrated diplomacy,” Kalonzo said.
Elsewhere, Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji has criticised the government’s massive loan expedition.
Failed security duties
On matters of national and regional security, Kalonzo Musyoka said: ”They condemn regional insecurity and neglect of the international community, all while they are linked to the escalation of wars in the region – the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Sudan in particular. This regime sells arms and gets illegal gold in return. Honestly, what we are witnessing is a horror movie directed by a know-it-all director who is the star and the supporting cast of his own show. The Ruto regime calls for reforms of international institutions and global agendas, including climate change, while he auctions off our forests for carbon credits for his own personal aggrandisement,” he said.
At the Wiper NDC, Kalonzo Musyoka was joined by other United Opposition top brass, led by People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua, as they all agreed to read from the same script while pledging to unseat President William in the 2027 presidential polls.
