Kalonzo-allied MP confronts Ruto for calling opposition leaders ‘useless’

By , November 12, 2025

Makueni MP Suzanne Ndunge Kiamba confronted President William Ruto to his face over his continued labelling of the united opposition as bure kabisa (useless) and having no agenda for the people.

While speaking during President Ruto’s developmental tour in Ukambani on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the MP appeared visibly exasperated with the President’s remarks about opposition leaders being meaningless.

MP Suzanne, who also doubles as a social safeguards specialist, told the Head of State that he should respect leaders in the opposition and stop the trend of calling them bure kabisa.

She went on to say that every person was created in the image of God, and using such rhetoric goes against Christian doctrines. She called upon the President to respect other politicians even if he does not align with them politically.

Wakati tunafanya siasa, give us space; let’s grow with respect,” the Makueni MP said.

This left the crowd in cheers as she climbed down from the platform she was using.

The President, who was in charge of that roadside rally, did not hesitate to respond to the MP. He told her that it is not him who calls opposition leaders bure kabisa but Kenyans themselves, who, according to Ruto, after assessing that the opposition has no meaningful agenda, have resorted to referring to them as bure kabisa.

The president was first welcomed by the county boss, Mutula Kilonzo Junior, and his senator, Dan Maanzo, who is a close ally of the Wiper leader.

Both had previously been part of Kalonzo’s entourage that visited Opoda Farm to pay tribute to the late Raila Odinga and have been critical of the Ruto-led regime.

They had also skipped the Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Ithookwe Stadium, Kitui County, on Monday, October 20, 2025, leaving the host governor, Julius Malombe, to preside over the occasion alone.
