Kalonzo accepts Azimio party leader role, vows principled leadership
Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has accepted his appointment as Party Leader of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition, pledging to offer principled leadership focused on national renewal.
In a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Kalonzo thanked Azimio’s leadership for the trust bestowed upon him, describing the appointment as a responsibility that goes beyond personal ambition.
“I graciously accept my appointment as Party Leader of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition. I thank our chairman, President Uhuru Kenyatta, the coalition leadership, and all constituent parties for this trust. I congratulate my colleagues entrusted with various leadership positions,” Kalonzo stated.
Call for unity
The Wiper leader framed Azimio as a platform built on national ideals, saying the coalition remains anchored on justice, inclusivity and responsive governance.
“Azimio continues to represent the hopes of millions who believe in justice, inclusivity and a Kenya that works for everyone. We welcome other like-minded individuals and parties to join us as the government in waiting,” he said.
Striking a unifying tone, the former Vice President urged Kenyans not to lose hope, insisting that the coalition’s focus would be on restoring public trust and national dignity.
“This is bigger than any individual; it is about Kenya. I urge my fellow countrymen and women not to despair. Together, we will offer principled leadership focused on national renewal,” he stated.
“#KomboaKenya. Inawezekana!” he declared.
Azimio’s restructuring
Kalonzo’s remarks come hours after Azimio announced key leadership changes following a joint meeting of the coalition’s council and national executive committee, chaired by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The leadership changes were confirmed in correspondence from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), which acknowledged receipt of resolutions adopted during the joint session held on Monday, February 2, 2026.
“This Office acknowledges receipt of your letter dated 2nd February 2026, on the joint meeting of the Azimio Council and the National Coalition Executive Council of 2nd February 2026,” the letter signed by Registrar of Political Parties John Cox Lorionokou reads.
In the new changes, Suna East MP and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed, who served as Azimio Secretary General, has been replaced by Suba MP Caroli Omondi.
Additionally, former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia has been named Azimio’s Executive Director.
