Kacheliba MP cautions Gachagua over handling of DCP amid defection concerns
Kacheliba Member of Parliament (MP) Titus Lotee has warned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his management of the Democracy for the Citizens (DCP) Party amid defections and internal turmoil concerns.
Speaking in an interview on a local TV station on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the MP argued that Gachagua’s leadership decisions risk destabilising not only the opposition but also his own political career.
“The direction DCP party is taking is wrong. If you see very strong supporters of your party leaving to the opponent’s party, it reads the end of time. Gachagua is a great jeopardy to himself,” he stated.

This trend, he argued, signals a growing disenchantment within the ranks, which could have far-reaching implications ahead of the 2027 elections.
Moreover, the MP criticised Gachagua for undermining the opposition while failing to consolidate his own base.
“Personally, I think he (Gachagua) came in as the saviour of the opposition. But what has happened? He has killed the opposition completely. He has destroyed the opposition, and he is even jeopardising his own self,” the MP said.
Fire on the mountain?
The DCP boss, who has already declared himself the sole opposition leader capable of unseating President William Ruto in the 2027 polls, has always maintained that the anti-government camp is united and it is deliberating on a presidential candidate, though it will be delayed.
MP Lotee, however, has scoffed at the sentiments referring to the uglier bickers between Gachagua and Jubilee Deputy Party leader Fred Matiang’i over the lack of outfit and political vet.
According to the legislator, Gachagua’s public criticisms of other political actors have fueled uncertainty in the United Opposition.
“He started saying Jubilee is the wrong party. He is a weak party. He is a weak link. He started hitting Matiangi, telling him that the Kisii are very few. They cannot even support.”
Such statements, he claims, have not only weakened opposition cohesion but also damaged Gachagua’s credibility as a unifying leader.

Cracks in United Opposition?
The MP stressed that coalition partners, including former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, former Attorney General Justin Muturi and DAP-K Party leader Eugene Wamalwa, have begun distancing themselves from DCP.
“Apart from those that are leaving DCP, the coalition partners that were really coalescing with him, they are all leaving him. Why? Because he is a jeopardy unto himself,” he declared.
The MP went further to claim that Gachagua’s actions are effectively aiding President Ruto’s political prospects.
“Gachagua is the greatest beneficiary for William Ruto. 2027 is desperately doing a great donkey’s work for William Ruto. You basically think William Ruto might not even have a candidate based on what he’s doing on the opposition, including his own party,” he quipped.
