Kabuchai MP warns of mass ODM exodus if Sifuna is ousted
By Mabonga Makhanu, January 6, 2026Kabuchai Member of Parliament Majimbo Kalasinga has warned that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) risks a mass exodus of supporters if plans to oust Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from the party leadership are carried out.
Speaking in his constituency on Monday, January 5, 2025, Kalasinga stated that any attempt to force Sifuna out of his position as ODM Secretary General would be met with strong resistance, particularly from the Luhya community.
He warned that the community, which has been a key support base for ODM for over two decades, would consider exiting the party en masse if Sifuna is pushed out.
Kalasinga accused ODM leadership of engaging in political games aimed at sidelining Sifuna, insisting that the Nairobi senator speaks not only for the Luhya community but also for Kenyans who feel oppressed and unheard.

He emphasised that Sifuna’s voice represents national interests and warned that targeting him would be interpreted as an attack on the entire Luhya community.
“Ile mchezo imeanza kuonekana kwa chama ya ODM ati wamtoe Edwin Sifuna kwa chama ya ODM, ati wamtoe kwa nguvu ndio watajua Waluhya tuko pamoja. Sisi hatutaki kuskia anybody akichokora Edwin Sifuna. Edwin Sifuna anaongea sauti ya Kenya, anaongea sauti ya Waluhya, sauti ya Wakenya, sauti ya wale walio finywa katika Kenya,” Majimbo stated.
The Kabuchai MP further stated that any Luhya leader who remains in ODM after Sifuna is forcefully removed would be considered a traitor.
He called on all Luhya governors, senators, and members of parliament to unite and resist any move to undermine Sifuna, adding that if provoked, they would chart a new political path together with him, insisting that the future would be brighter under Sifuna’s leadership.
“Guza Sifuna na yule mluhya ambaye atabaki kwa odm ndiye atakuwa msaliti. All governors, all senators, all mps wakishika wachokoze sifuna muamke tukuwe na mass exodus from odm, na pahali tu naenda tunajua. Wale viongozi ambao tuko viama vingine tutakuja pamojja na sifuna tutachukua Barabara yetu ambayo ni mpya na mbele kutakuwa kuzuri na Sifuna,” he added
Sifuna’s political prowess
Kalasinga went on to describe Edwin Sifuna as a national figure with the intellectual capacity, courage, and leadership qualities necessary to serve as President of Kenya. He claimed that fear within ODM over Sifuna potentially becoming the party’s presidential candidate is the reason behind the push to remove him.
He reiterated that the Luhya community is ready to defend their son against any political attacks.
He also referenced the late ODM leader Raila Odinga, stating that while he was alive, Raila recognised Sifuna as the official spokesperson of the party and trusted him to speak on its behalf.
Kalasinga maintained that Raila passed on knowing Sifuna was a loyal and truthful party leader who had not changed his stance.
He concluded by affirming continued support for Sifuna, urging him to remain firm as the community stands behind him.
Calls for Sifuna’s ouster
Kalasinga’s remarks come amid growing speculation over Edwin Sifuna’s possible ouster from ODM.
Calls for his removal have been mounting, with the first public demand coming from self-proclaimed ODM Youth League leader Kasamuel McOure, who claimed that Sifuna’s exit would not significantly impact the party, as many of his supporters believe, and his days in the Orange party are numbered.

Migori Senator Eddy Oketch has also joined the calls, demanding Sifuna’s expulsion from ODM and accusing him of several undisclosed issues that, according to him, are detrimental to the party’s unity and direction.
