MP Caroli Omondi warns Eddy Oketch over fresh complaint against Sifuna
Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has criticised Migori Senator Eddy Oketch over his latest complaint seeking disciplinary action against ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, warning that the move lacks legal basis and could backfire.
In a strongly worded statement posted on X on Monday, January 5, 2025, Omondi said Oketch’s claimsagainst Sifuna have no legal legs to stand on and accused him of pursuing a reckless political fight. Omondi claimed he had already spoken directly to Oketch and advised him to withdraw the letter to protect his reputation.
“Senator Eddy Okech is once again the complainant against his colleague Senator Edwin Sifuna over allegations that have no legal legs to stand on,” Omondi wrote. He added that Oketch had previously taken a similar position against him and lost, with costs awarded against both Oketch and ODM.
Omondi warned that Oketch would most certainly lose again if he continued with what he described as a political misadventure. He quoted former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill to criticise what he called Oketch’s political judgement, suggesting the senator was heading in the wrong direction.
The MP also defended Sifuna’s public remarks on ODM’s internal affairs, arguing that the issues now being raised had been spoken about before. According to Omondi, those who once condemned such criticism are now raising the same concerns.
“There is nothing being said about ODM now that I have not said before,” Omondi stated. He accused some party insiders of exploiting ODM and its leadership for personal gain, claiming that individuals who treated the party and its members “as ATM machines” were now being exposed.

Oketch targets Sifuna
Omondi’s remarks follow Oketch’s formal letter to ODM dated January 5, 2026, in which the Migori senator asked the party to suspend, de-whip, and possibly expel Sifuna. Oketch accused the Nairobi senator of gross misconduct, breach of the ODM Constitution, and violation of the Political Parties Act.
In the letter, written through his advocates, Oketch claimed that Sifuna associated himself with rival political parties while presenting himself as ODM’s Secretary General. He also accused him of defying party discipline by publicly rejecting ODM’s support for the Broad-Based Government arrangement.
A key issue raised in the complaint concerns Sifuna’s remarks about ODM’s 2022 presidential campaign funding. Oketch claimed Sifuna disclosed confidential information relating to the sourcing and dispatch of campaign funds, particularly during a public fallout with Suna East MP Junet Mohamed.
“The revelation of such confidential information greatly jeopardises the party’s image and public standing,” the letter states.
Oketch further accused Sifuna of undermining ODM’s objectives by frustrating coalition efforts and usurping powers reserved for the party leader. He asked ODM to remove Sifuna from all parliamentary leadership positions and strike his name from the party’s membership register, or alternatively commence disciplinary proceedings.
