Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party youth league leader Kasmuel McOure has come out to spell doom for the party’s Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, telling him that his days as the secretary general are numbered.

While speaking in a post shared on his social media handles on Sunday, January 4, 2025, the outspoken activist, who has been on Sifuna’s neck in recent times, told the Nairobi senator that even if he is ousted from the helm of the ODM party, his exit would not be significant and would not be felt, as many of Sifuna’s supporters believe.

“The outgoing Secretary-General of the Orange Democratic Movement, Mr Edwin Sifuna, must be reminded in no uncertain terms that it is he who needs the Orange Democratic Movement and not the other way round, that his exit will not be a big blow as his hype men try to deceive him,” Kasmuel stated.

While referring to him as the outgoing SG of the ODM party, Kasmuel poured cold water on his ascension to the top leadership of the party, stating that he was only handpicked as SG and was not elected, nor did he qualify for the role.

He claimed that Sifuna is an affirmative action candidate and added that even his 2022 senatorial election was no different, claiming that it was also handpicked.

Lack of oversight

He also took issue with Sifuna’s senatorial mandate, where he is required to offer oversight to the county government, stating that instead of focusing on the plight of Nairobians, such as the recent South C building collapse, Sifuna has focused on non-issues, such as attacking party members and calling them derogatory and insulting names.

He dared him, as the SG and official spokesperson of the party, to produce records showing that insulting and demeaning party leaders is the official stand and resolution of the party.

Kasmuel continued with his criticism of Sifuna, stating that his role as SG is to speak on behalf of the party, not to air his personal opinions and insights while masquerading them as political truth and the direction the party should take.

He then declared open war on the SG, stating that if ODM party members are not interested in pushing Sifuna out, he will lead young people within the party in calling for his removal from the Orange party.

“I assure you that as secretary general, your days are numbered, and while party organs are not interested in kicking you out, we as young people will.”

Action on Sifuna

He went ahead to issue a 30-day ultimatum to the party’s top leadership to institute disciplinary action against Edwin Sifuna for what he termed as sabotaging the party from within and to explain why he has been rocking the ODM boat.

“I’m issuing a 30-day ultimatum to the top party leadership that they must institute disciplinary action against you, that you must face a disciplinary committee and tell us why you insist on sabotaging the party,” McOure added.

This comes at a time when there is a standoff within the Orange party, with two factions emerging: one insisting on supporting President William Ruto in 2027, and another, led by Edwin Sifuna, which is opposed to the broad-based government and supporting President William Ruto in 2027.
