As political temperatures rise ahead of the upcoming by-elections, former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has predicted a major political upset for President William Ruto’s camp, saying the United Opposition movement will sweep key seats.

Kabando, in a statement on his X account posted on Thursday, October 9, 2025, expressed confidence that opposition-backed candidates will carry the day in several constituencies and wards.

“Karisa Kenga, Newton Karish, and Seth Panyako will easily win as Magarini, Mbeere North, and Malava MP, respectively. Abraham Ayaya will triumph in MCA Kisa East Ward. Ruto will eat humble pie early Xmas! United Opposition Wave – Wantam. Ballot revolution loading,” Kabando said.

His remarks come as political alliances continue to take shape across the country, with various parties fielding candidates in the mini-polls.

The upcoming by-elections have attracted attention as a test of strength between the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition and the growing opposition movement that has branded itself as Wantam, a rallying call that loosely symbolises unity and defiance against what they describe as poor governance.

Kabando’s message paints the by-elections as more than just local contests. For him, the votes represent a people-driven statement against rising living costs, heavy taxation, and the government’s performance since taking office.

He said that the coming election will be a litmus test for Ruto, “Ruto will eat humble pie early Christmas”, Kabando wa Kabando stated, hinting at a growing belief within opposition circles that the public mood is shifting, particularly in regions where discontent has been building.

Elsewhere, Mungatana has urged IEBC to ensure transparency and fairness in the upcoming by-elections.

In recent weeks, several leaders aligned with the opposition have been mobilising in the grassroots, urging voters to use the by-elections to send a message to those in power. Kabando’s remarks echo this tone, one of confidence, defiance, and anticipation.

As the campaigns intensify, the by-elections are shaping up not just as a contest for seats but as a test of political influence, and a preview of the country’s political landscape heading into 2027.

For Kabando, it’s a moment of reckoning for the government, and a chance for what he calls the ballot revolution to begin.
