Kabando: Ruto has lost most Mt Kenya votes to Gachagua

Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament (MP) Kabando wa Kabando has claimed that President William Ruto has lost the majority of Mt Kenya’s support to his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
In a statement on X on Saturday, June 21, 2025, Kabando argued that while Mt Kenya overwhelmingly backed Ruto in the 2022 elections, the region has since grown disillusioned with his leadership.
“Every 100 votes Ruto got in 2022, 47 came from a hypnotised Mt Kenya. Of each 100 Gema persons who voted for Ruto, 95 are furiously against him today,” he stated.
Furthermore, Kabando has thrown his weight behind Gachagua, calling him the new face of resistance in Mt. Kenya.
“We 100 percent support the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua to terminate the kleptocrat Kasongo Ruto’s evil rule,” he stated.

This comes moments after President Ruto fired at Gachagua, brushing off any political threat from him, claiming he was not scared of him and his political rhetoric.
While labelling Gachagua a ‘noisemaker’ with no vision or agenda for Kenya, Ruto said he isn’t losing sleep over his ex-ally’s criticisms but is only focused on the development agenda of the nation.
Speaking during the 10th Annual Meeting of the Meru Central Cooperative Union in Meru County on Saturday, June 21, 2025, President Ruto launched a scathing attack on Gachagua, dismissing the former deputy’s continued government attacks as baseless and lacking developmental substance.
“I’ve been in politics for years. No one can scare me or intimidate me with noise. These people are just a team of noisemakers, always singing ‘Kasongo’, when they know they failed when they were in power, and they will continue to fail because they have nothing to offer,” Ruto said.
DCP Party
Gachagua unveiled his much-anticipated political outfit, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) in Nairobi on May 15, 2025.
Speaking during the launch, Gachagua said that he has spent the last 6 months at his home holding consultations to help shape his political party.

He noted that his party has been forged on the backdrop of the need to provide better leadership for Kenyans and pull them out of the long-standing problems of poor governance.
“Kenyans have boldly told us they have a solution to the problems facing them. Kenyans have asked us to start a party which will form a government by the people for the people,” he noted.
He added that the DCP party has no preferred candidates and will prioritise the voices of Kenyans, hence the party slogan “Skiza Wakenya” which means “Listen to Kenyans”.
