Justin Muturi rubbishes Ruto’s apology, vows to make him one-term president

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has dismissed President William Ruto’s recent apology, asserting that the president’s tenure will be limited to a single term.
Speaking during Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s homecoming event on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at his Muuna home in Tseikuru, Kitui County, Muturi dismissed Ruto’s apology as insufficient, suggesting that his remarks lacked genuine accountability and failed to address the specific grievances related to the arrests.
“William Ruto in one term, mimi niko na kazi yengine kweli? Jana William Ruto kwa prayer breakfast anasema kama tulikosea kwani kushika watu si makosa? Ati kama tulikosea, natoa msamaha; iko msamaha hapo? William Ruto, take your apology to Sugoi because you are going to be one term,” Muturi said.

Apology
During a National Prayer Breakfast held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Ruto acknowledged that his administration may have made mistakes, particularly concerning the arrest of individuals during anti-government protests and offered a general apology.
He expressed regret over actions that may have hurt citizens, especially during the turbulent 2024 anti-tax protests that led to violent crackdowns and deaths.
“To our children, if there is any misstep, we apologise. We want to build a relationship that will make our country great,” the head of state apologised.
“I ask us as a people to work together, to do less of finding fault and do more of building bridges that can make us a greater nation. I am confident about the future of Kenya, and I do not doubt that Kenya is truly a blessed nation. The future, no matter what happens, is going to be greater than our past.”
Ruto on one-term campaign
Muturi’s statement comes just hours after Ruto declared his intention to win the 2027 general elections by a landslide, dismissing claims of a one-term presidency
Speaking in Kisumu Town ahead of the launch of the LV Point Affordable Housing precinct within LV Marina, Ruto stated that the opposition has no plan or agenda for the Kenyan citizens.

“These are people who have no vision, no plan, and no agenda. We will show them dust; they won’t believe,” he stated.
Furthermore, he criticised the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), led by Rigathi Gachagua, for its party slogans, saying it lacks a vision.
“All they know is slogans: ‘Ruto must go,’ ‘Kasongo,’ ‘Wantam…’ And I want to tell you we are going to move this country forward,” he stated.
