Justin Muturi refutes reports he could join broad-based govt
Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary and Attorney General Justin Muturi has dismissed claims that he is being wooed to join President William Ruto’s broad-based government.
Through his X handle on Sunday, October 12, 2025, Muturi shared a screenshot of a local blog post alleging that Ruto had reached out to him through emissaries.
Muturi speaks on joining Ruto
He termed the report as false and malicious, insisting that it was meant to mislead Kenyans and damage his reputation.
Muturi, known for his firm political stance, said the reports were the work of individuals who fear his independence and his growing influence within the opposition.
He urged Kenyans to ignore the claims and focus on issues that matter to the nation’s progress.

“FAKE NEWS!!! Let it be clear, I have never met, sent, nor received any emissaries from President William Ruto or anyone acting on his behalf. This propaganda being circulated is a desperate attempt to push a false narrative and sow division. I stand by my principles and my word,” Muturi said.
“I do not trade my convictions for convenience or political favours. Kenyans deserve honesty, not fabricated headlines from rumour peddlers.”
The former attorney general’s statement came just days after reports emerged that several political figures were being approached to support Ruto’s broad-based government agenda.
The initiative, which aims to unite leaders across political divides, has recently seen new partnerships being formed in an effort to stabilize the country’s political environment.
Muturi, however, made it clear that he has not been in any talks with Ruto or his allies.
His declaration appeared to distance him from the ongoing political realignments that have seen former rivals warm up to the president’s administration.

Ruto defends broad-based govt
Meanwhile, President William Ruto has continued to defend his move to engage leaders from different political backgrounds, including the recent political handshake with KANU chairman Gideon Moi.
Speaking during a public function, Ruto said his goal is to bring unity and ensure national development.
“I have already engaged in discussion with many leaders, including 80 per cent of Parliament, to explain to them how we are going to move this country from a third world country to a first world country,” Ruto stated.
“I will continue engaging with more leaders in this country, because I believe when we unite, the favour of God will be upon us,” he added.
According to Ruto, this strategy will ensure that major transformational projects such as affordable housing, healthcare, and education reforms are implemented effectively to elevate Kenya’s economy.
As Muturi distances himself from the reported outreach, political analysts say his firm stance highlights emerging divisions among leaders over the broad-based government plan, which continues to shape Kenya’s political landscape ahead of 2027.
