Jimi Wanjigi outlines 5-point plan to cut taxes, end debt
Safina Party leader and 2027 presidential hopeful Jimi Wanjigi has unveiled a new vision for Kenya, promising a plan that delivers on its commitments.
On Friday, September 19, 2025, Wanjigi took to X, saying his party is anchored on keeping promises made to Kenyans.
“The people of Kenya deserve to be led by a plan that does not deliver false promises, but one that guarantees prosperity, dignity, and freedom from suppression and economic colonialism.”
He lauded the five-point “FIST Agenda,” which aims to end debt, cut taxes, provide free education and healthcare, and unlock credit so every citizen can thrive.
“That plan is the FIST Agenda, end debt, cut taxes, guarantee free education & healthcare, and unlock credit so every Kenyan can thrive,” he wrote.
The agenda, posted on X, outlines specific measures: no payment of odious debt, universal healthcare, free primary and secondary education, replacement of the 16% VAT with a 5% sales tax, and halting domestic borrowing by the government.
Wanjigi emphasised that this approach seeks to guarantee prosperity, dignity, and freedom from economic and political suppression.

Elsewhere, former Chief Justice David Maraga said that public debt has spiralled out of control since 2013.
Call for economic action
The FIST Agenda was presented during the Safina Party’s National Delegates Conference (NDC) on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Ngong Racecourse.
The event marked a leadership transition from outgoing leader Paul Muite to Wanjigi. Muite urged swift action against corruption, stating, “There are things that cannot wait until the next elections. The corruption we are witnessing cannot wait for another two and a half years.”
Deputy Leader Willis Otieno reinforced this vision, describing the transition as more than a handover, calling it a “call to action.”
He said Safina now marches forward with one mission: an Economic Revolution to free Kenyans from debt, restore dignity to work, and return power to the people.
Otieno also pledged reforms in the security sector, including elected Officers Commanding Police Divisions (OCPDs) to curb police excesses, asserting that the people must be the ultimate authority.
Social welfare and citizen empowerment
Wanjigi’s proposals aim to strengthen social welfare and economic independence. Replacing VAT with a 5% sales tax under the “Pesa Mfukoni” initiative seeks to boost disposable income, while halting domestic borrowing is intended to unlock credit for citizens.
During the NDC, Wanjigi also addressed personal political challenges, warning President William Ruto against targeting his family. He recounted incidents of intimidation at his Muthaiga home and praised his wife and daughter for their resilience.
Muite encouraged public demonstrations against corruption, urging the new leadership and young Kenyans to lead “maandamano tomorrow.” Following Wanjigi’s exit from ODM in 2022, Otieno also proposed People’s Boards at police stations in line with the IPOA Strategic Plan 2025–2030.
