Havi reveals why he ditched UDA for DCP
Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi has revealed the reasons behind his move to ditch the United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA) and join the Democracy for the Citizens’ Party (DCP) in a bid to position himself to vie for the Westlands parliamentary seat in 2027.
Speaking in an interview on one of the local TV stations on Thursday, February 4, 2026, Havi has cited reasons of betrayal in the UDA party as part of the reasons he decided to quit the party, and after months of soul-searching, he settled on the Rigathi Gachagua-led DCP party, as it aligned with the values he stands for.
The outspoken lawyer who vied for the Westlands parliamentary seat in 2022 via the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has stated that it was unbearable for him to remain in UDA, adding that he has been cautioned by the people to exit the party because it would taint his image of the person he is.
“It became unbearable for me to be associated with UDA, because I am an easy-going person, and I walk by the streets, and I drive myself because I have not stolen anyone’s money, and you will be mocked by people, and they will tell you, ‘Look, have you been a good person? Please get out of that party of thieves, but even before, you remember April 2024, when UDA elections were held; I was not in the voter register. My name had already been removed,” Havi said.

Havi has stated that the reasons were justifiable to amount to his exit from the party and has chosen the DCP party because the members of the party stand for what is right.
Gachagua welcomes Havi
The former Deputy President welcomed Rigathi Gachagua welcomed Havi to the DCP party on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, expressing support for his political ambitions.
“I am happy to welcome Nelson Havi, one of the greatest legal minds in the country, to walk with us in his quest to represent the people of Westlands constituency in the National Assembly,” he said.
Gachagua said DCP is positioning itself as a political home for professionals seeking leadership roles, adding that the party is focused on building a progressive and issue-driven movement.
“DCP is the home of progressive professionals who desire political leadership,” he added.

Havi joins the list of new members
Havi joins the list of new members in the party after the East African Legislative Assembly Member of Parliament Kanini Kega, who also joined the DCP party from the Jubilee party, adding to the list of new members who have defected into the party as a way to politically position themselves for the upcoming general elections in 2027.
