Gladys Wanga defends Sifuna’s ouster, says ODM followed Constitution

By , February 12, 2026

The Orange Democratic Movement National Chairperson, Gladys Wanga, has dismissed claims that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was fired illegally from his position as the party’s Secretary General.

Speaking at an event on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Wanga maintained that Edwin Sifuna was ousted constitutionally according to the ODM Party’s constitution.

On her part, Wanga explained that during the National Executive Committee meeting held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, a correct number was present to legally facilitate the decision to oust Sifuna.

Nimeona watu wanasema kwamba NEC was illegal na wamefanya illegal decision, NEC ya chama cha ODM is fully constituted by forty members, and the NEC we had yesterday, we had thirty-four out of the forty members attending and present with two apologies,” Wanga explained.

In addition, Wanga firmly state that the ODM’s NEC is properly constituted and can make any decision in line with the constitution of the party.

“This means that the NEC is properly constituted and can make any decision in line with the constitution of the party,” Wanga said.

Babu Owino dismisses Sifuna’s ouster

Her remarks come moments after Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has termed the national executive committee that ousted Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna illegal.

Speaking in a press release in Nairobi on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Babu Owino noted that the national executive committee was illegally constituted, and therefore there was no way an illegally constituted committee could have the power to remove a duly elected party official.

“There’s no way that illegal officeholders can remove a legal officeholder from office. The only mistake Sifuna or we made was to fight for the less privileged, for jobs for our youths, and against the high cost of living that is affecting Kenyans,” Babu said.

Babu Owino described Sifuna as a victim of internal victimisation for defending the less privileged, providing jobs to the youths and the high cost of living, claiming that the rival camp had effectively declared war within ODM.

Sifuna speaks up

On the other hand, the embatled Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has said that he remains a royal member of the Orange Democratic Movement party and the duly elected secretary general.

In a brief press release statement read to the members of the fourth estate on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Sifuna thanked supporters and signalled to the ODM supporters that he will remain a loyal member of the ODM party and the duly elected Secretary General of the ODM Party.

“I remain a loyal member and the duly elected secretary general of the ODM party,” Sifuna said.
