Gachagua’s Embu County tour: MP Mukunji reveals DCP itinerary
By Mabonga Makhanu, July 24, 2026Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji has unveiled the itinerary for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s visit to Embu County, scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2026.
In a statement shared on his social media pages on Thursday, July 23, 2026, the Embu gubernatorial hopeful announced the programme for Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) “Meet the People Tour” in the county.
“We are set for the great day. It will be marked with the official opening of DCP County offices in Embu Town. See you there. Karibu Embu, H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, EGH,” Mukunji said.
According to the itinerary, the DCP leader will begin his tour at Gategi Market at 10:00 a.m. before officially opening the party’s offices in Embu Town at noon. He will then proceed to Kathangariri at 2:30 p.m. and Karurumo at 4:00 p.m., concluding the day’s engagements in Siakago at 5:00 p.m.
The visit comes just days after Gachagua announced plans to tour the Mt Kenya East region, beginning with Embu, Meru, and Tharaka Nithi counties, as part of a six-day political campaign before embarking on another visit to the United States of America.
His planned tour of Mt Kenya East comes amid growing political debate triggered by Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku. Over the past few weeks, Ruku has been calling for the political separation of Mt. Kenya East from Mt. Kenya West, arguing that the time has come for the eastern region to chart its own political path.
Ruku’s Mount Kenya plans
According to Ruku, the western side of Mt Kenya has politically benefited from the eastern region for years, and it is now time for the latter to prioritise its own interests.
He further maintained that Mt Kenya East does not require political support from the western side and remains firmly behind President William Ruto’s bid for a second term.
The Cabinet Secretary also argued that the votes from Mt Kenya East alone would significantly contribute to President Ruto’s re-election, insisting that the region should focus on strengthening its own political identity.
However, the remarks did not sit well with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. Although both leaders support President Ruto’s re-election, Kindiki publicly rebuked Ruku, urging him to abandon divisive politics and respect the sanctity of his office as a cabinet secretary.
Kindiki maintained that Mt Kenya is one region and should not be divided, warning against rhetoric that could create unnecessary political divisions within the mountain.
Gachagaua-Kindiki truce
Gachagua also weighed in on the debate, praising Kindiki’s remarks despite their recent political differences. The former Deputy President welcomed Kindiki’s call for unity and urged his supporters to cease attacks against the Deputy President, calling for a political ceasefire.
At the same time, Gachagua has intensified his political campaigns across the Mt Kenya region. Besides the regional tours, he has announced plans to visit individual constituencies represented by Members of Parliament allied to President Ruto.
“For now, let us not attack Kindiki; let him be,” Gachagua said.
The former Deputy President has repeatedly stated that the tours are aimed at rallying support for DCP candidates and ensuring that legislators who opposed him politically are voted out in the 2027 general election. According to Gachagua, those leaders should “pay the political price” for abandoning the people who elected them.
