Gachagua joins Nyeri youth during their Niko Kadi campaign
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua brought Nyeri Town to a standstill after he joined a group of youths during the Niko Kadi campaign, Nyeri chapter.
The Democracy for Citizens (DCP) leader, who was accompanied by his spouse, Reverend Dorcas Gachagua, and sons Keith and Kelvin Gachagua, painted Nyeri Town with DCP colours white and green as they marched to the Nyeri Town County Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices, where he was set to verify his voter registration details and update his biometrics.

Gachagua, known for cruising in a Land Cruiser V8, was different today; he drove himself together with his wife in a Mercedes-Benz salon convertible, painted with green and white colors and Niko Kadi watermarks, as the youths walked beside his German machine.
Gachagua’s message to youths
After checking his details at the IEBC offices, Gachagua addressed the media on Thursday, March 26, 2026. He stated that the motive behind his action was to help Gen Zs finish the work they began in June 2024 during the protests, which were aimed at removing the current administration from power. He further urged youths to come out in large numbers and register as voters.
“This vote that the young people are taking will enable them to actualise what they wanted on June 24, 2024, when we had a Gen Z protest. They wanted transparency and accountability. They wanted good governance. They wanted good education. They wanted good health,” he stated.
“They wanted a country that is governed by the rule of law. (0:52) And therefore, they are on the right track and I want to encourage them, wherever they are, to register everybody and to challenge each other. (1:02) And we are also asking parents to help in challenging their children to register.”

In Mathira Constituency, Gachagua confirmed that over 100,000 people have so far registered as voters. The Returning Officer of Mathira briefed him that they need around 29,000 more young people to register. Gachagua stated that he has already liaised with local leaders from the area and is mobilising efforts to reach this target.
Regarding himself and his family, Gachagua said that their details are up to date and that they have updated their biometrics. On election day, he stated, they will wake up at 3:00 am to vote together as a family.
Niko kadi campaign
This comes at a time when the Niko Kadi campaign has gained momentum, with the initiator of the movement, Ademba Allans, saying that they aim to sensitize over 1,000 youths from each constituency to register as voters daily.
IEBC Commissioner Alutalala Mukwana stated that, since the voter registration exercise opened in late October 2025, they have only registered 250,000 new voters. The Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) is set to begin on Monday, March 30, 2026.
