Former DP Rigathi Gachagua has pointed out a rare positive in his October 2024 impeachment, saying his removal from office took him back to his natural environment.

Speaking to Embu TikTokers on Saturday, November 22, 2025, Gachagua likened his dramatic impeachment in 2024 to throwing a fish back into water, citing the insights and valuable lessons he had picked up.

Fish to water

“When Ruto paid the MPs to send me back to the village in Wamunyoro. It was like sending a fish to water. I am now in my natural environment,” he said.

Gachagua underscored that his transition from the corridors of power in Nairobi back to the serenity of his rural home, and most recently across Mbeere North on the campaign trail, had been a saving grace that made him appreciate the value of life.

“I have only lasted here for six days. If I make it to ten days, I will have known every corner. Riggg G is a villager by birth, by practice, and by choice. Mbeere has given me the opportunity I have not found for a long time. When I am in Nairobi, I cannot be in the village. I am now in my natural environment,” he reiterated.

On a political note, he noted that the interaction has also informed his campaign strategies.

“I am now well conversant with what is going on in Mbeere. You know my party slogan is Skiza Wakenya. It has also informed our campaign strategy, and we are now taking lessons to use in our campaigns, he added.

Mbeere battle lines

“I want to tell these people they are not seeing the last of me. I am thinking after we take Karish to parliament, I could get money and build a house here and settle among these people,” he added.

His remarks come after he emphasised the importance of the upcoming by-election in the constituency.

Speaking in a church service on Sunday, November 16, 2025, Gachagua claimed that by-election will be a contest between President William Ruto and Governor Cecily Mbarire’s candidate and the residents of the region.

‘The contest is between Kasongo and Mbarire on one side and the people of Mbeere on the other side. Who will win? The contest is simple,” he said.

“Their candidate (Muthende) is being fronted by them. He has no vote here in Mbeere, so I am wondering how they expect you to vote for him. How can people vote for someone who can’t even cast a vote for himself?” He posed.
