Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has praised the Kenyan diaspora community in Peterborough, United Kingdom, for what he described as a strong spirit of unity, togetherness, and cohesion that reflects the kind of society Kenya should aspire to build.

Taking to his official Facebook account on Sunday, May 24, 2026, following engagements with the community, Gachagua thanked residents for their warm hospitality and the sense of national pride displayed during the gathering held on Saturday evening.

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader said the unity demonstrated by Kenyans living in Peterborough is a reminder of the values of harmony and peaceful coexistence that the country needs to strengthen back home.

“Thank you to the Peterborough Community for the warm hospitality and genuine spirit of togetherness shown throughout last evening and for hosting us,” Gachagua said.

He added that the diaspora community’s cohesion reflects the “spirit of the nation we deserve,” one built on friendship, inclusivity and shared purpose.

Diaspora praised for national spirit

The former DP commended Kenyans living abroad for maintaining strong ties with their homeland and for upholding national identity despite being far from home.

“Your spirit of togetherness as Kenyans brings back the spirit of the nation we deserve — better at home; cohesive and friendly living in harmony and happiness,” he noted.

Gachagua said the unity he witnessed should serve as an example to political and community leaders in Kenya, urging for more efforts to promote cohesion across all regions.

Growing diaspora engagement

His remarks come amid increasing engagement between Kenyan political leaders and diaspora communities ahead of the 2027 political cycle, with various leaders seeking to strengthen support networks abroad.

Gachagua has been actively holding meetings with Kenyans in the UK, focusing on political mobilisation, community development, and national unity discussions.

Gachagua has expressed confidence that his DCP Party will form the next government after the August 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an engagement with Kenyans in Swindon, United Kingdom, on the night of May 22, 2026, Gachagua promised what he described as a humble and accountable leadership style if given the mandate.

He urged diaspora Kenyans to join what he termed a “national journey of change” that would extend beyond the election period.

Gachagua told the gathering that DCP was poised to take over leadership in 2027, saying the party was actively mobilising supporters both locally and abroad in preparation for the polls.
