Fresh motion tabled to impeach Nyamira Governor Nyaribo

By , November 17, 2025

Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo is once again under pressure as Members of the County Assembly move forward with a fresh plan to remove him from office. The Assembly had called a special sitting for Monday, November 17, 2025, where a new impeachment motion was tabled.

The motion was been filed by Bonyamatuta Ward MCA Julius Kimwomi Matwere. He wants the Assembly to consider claims of gross violation of the Constitution and abuse of office. These issues closely resemble the accusations raised in previous attempts to unseat the governor.

“I wish to give notice of motion of removal of Honorable Amos Nyaribo, the governor of Nyamira county, from office by way of impeachment on the following grounds: gross violation of the constitution of Kenya and other laws, abuse of office,” Kimwoni said during the special sitting for Monday, November 17, 2025.

Speaker Thadeus Nyabaro gazetted the sitting on November 13, 2025, confirming that the only business of the day will be to give notice of the impeachment motion.

This latest move continues a long pattern of battles between the governor and the Assembly. Since 2023, MCAs have made several attempts to impeach Nyaribo.

The first effort accused him of mismanagement, nepotism, and failure to remit statutory deductions. Later attempts in 2024 and 2025 fell short by just one vote, leaving the Assembly sharply divided.

Rival factions intensify conflict

The county has experienced prolonged internal conflict during this period. Rival factions have clashed over leadership, at one point even holding parallel sittings. Court cases and changes in Assembly leadership helped restore order, but the political tension never fully settled.

The current motion comes at a time when the governor is already facing scrutiny over a corruption investigation. Two weeks ago, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission raided his homes and offices while probing a Ksh382 million tender for the construction of county headquarters.

As things stand, the Assembly has 32 sitting members due to pending by-elections. To remove the governor, the motion needs at least 21 votes. This means Nyaribo must secure support from at least 12 MCAs to survive.
