The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has revealed that the high temperatures in Turkana are slowing down fingerprint identification during voting.

According to Noah Bowen, the IEBC Returning Officer for Nanam Ward in Turkana West, all polling stations opened on time in the morning, and the exercise is progressing well.

Nanam Ward has four candidates contesting for the Member of County Assembly position in the by-election.

The candidates are UDA’s Cosmas Longor, ODM’s Mohammed Yusuf, and Kenya Moja Movement Party’s Francis Miyo.

Speaking on Thursday, November 27, 2025, Bowen confirmed that voting began smoothly in all 13 polling stations, which have a total of 4,158 registered voters.

He noted that there are no major challenges so far, except for minor delays caused by fingerprint verification.

“Because of the extreme weather here, fingerprint identification is taking a lot of time. It’s a bit slower, but it’s working,” he said.

He also stated that security officers have been deployed to ensure a smooth election process.

The by-election exercise is being conducted in Nanam Ward in Turkana West and Lake Zone Ward in Turkana North.
