As former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s endorsement as the Jubilee party presidential candidate for the 2027 elections continues to gain traction, factional infighting within the party has emerged.

A section of party members now wants Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni thrown out of the office, terming him a state project out to jeopardise Matiang’i’s candidature.

Led by former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi (pictured below with former DP Rigathi Gachagua), they urged the party’s NEC to remove Kioni from his position, noting that he is a disgrace to the party.

Branding

“What was the message he sent last week by branding a truck Jubilee party colours and pasting his image alongside that of Matiang’i while on a tour of Kisii,” posed Mwathi.

Added he, “It was a script from the powers that be to soil and dent the image of Matiang’i and the people Mt Kenya region”

Mwathi went on to describe Kioni as “egoistically selfish, informed by inducement and seeking overtures from State House”.

PD have reliably established that Matiang’i is quite upset with Kioni over his truck branding stunt.

The former Ndaragwa MP has also been accused of opposing a truce between Jubilee party leader, former President Uhuru Kenyatta and the immediate former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Consequently, he has since tactfully but quietly been sidelined from the party’s key decision-making platforms.
