Eugene Wamalwa vows not to let Ruto destroy DAP-K
DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa has issued a strong warning to President William Ruto, stating that they will not allow him to destroy the Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) as he has done to other parties in Western Kenya.
Speaking to the media after their National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at Chui House on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Wamalwa said the party will resist any attempts to undermine multiparty democracy.
He noted that in Western Kenya, President Ruto has already taken control of other major political outfits. According to him, ANC under Musalia Mudavadi is no longer independent, Ford Kenya under Moses Wetang’ula is firmly aligned with the President, and ODM is now speaking of supporting Ruto after 2027.

“We have our eyes open; we will not allow you to kill democratic parties such as DAP or undermine multidemocracy. We know that in Western Kenya you have all the other major parties under your control. ANC is gone; Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya are in your pocket. ODM is now talking of supporting you post-2027,” Wamalwa said.
Wamalwa affirmed that DAP-K remains the only party in the region ready to challenge the president politically. He announced that they will field a presidential candidate to run against him and will not allow the party to be weakened or dismantled.
“We are one party that will challenge you in western Kenya that will present a presidential candidate to run against you, and we will not allow you to kill this party. We are ready for you,” he said.
Comparison with former presidents
With President Ruto coming out recently stating that he is a combination of the four former Heads of State, Eugene dismissed this, stating that he lacks the vision of Jomo Kenyatta, the humility of Daniel Moi, and the honesty and courtesy of Mwai Kibaki, who believed that leadership was not about personal gain but about transforming the lives of citizens.
“We heard you say you are like Jomo Kenyatta, like Moi, like Uhuru. Let me tell you, Ruto, you lack the vision of Jomo Kenyatta; you lack the humility of Daniel Moi; you lack the honesty and courtesy of Mwai Kibaki because he believed leadership is not about satisfying self-needs but changing the lives of people,” he added.

This came after an NEC meeting that was held at the party headquarters aimed at ironing out the party issues that have led to a split within the party leadership.
