Eric Wamumbi: MP Mukunji will soon ditch Gachagua
By Mabonga Makhanu, January 23, 2026Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has revealed that his Manyatta counterpart, John Mukunji, will soon ditch former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during an interview on his YouTube channel, Propesa, on Thursday, January 22, 2026, Wamumbi, who was once an ally of the Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party leader but later fell out with him, stated that even Mukunji, who has long been a DCP supporter, is set to leave the party.
According to Wamumbi, Mukunji will officially exit the DCP party by next week, following in the footsteps of other leaders who have already distanced themselves from Gachagua.
He also noted that the DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malala, who has recently faced claims of planning to ditch Gachagua and rejoin UDA—a claim he previously denied—is likewise expected to leave the party.
“Malala ni kama anatororoka huko; siumeona Mukunji ule wa Embu anatoroka. Amesema atatoroka next week,” Wamumbi said.
Wamumbi added that Gachagua will soon be left isolated, with all former allies gradually distancing themselves from him.
This development comes amid a broader exodus of leaders from UDA, with the latest being Juja MP George Koimburi, who returned to UDA after his fallout with Gachagua.
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has also publicly broken away from Gachagua, citing several grievances, including accusations of tribalism.
