Edwin Sifuna: ODM is still a member of Azimio
By Cynthia Lodite, February 3, 2026Orange Democratic Movement Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has clarified the ODM party’s position in the Azimio Coalition amid a leadership reshuffle.
Speaking in an interview with a local media house on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Sifuna explained that ODM is still part of the Azimio Coalition.
“I can only speak authoritatively for ODM….. ODM is still a member of Azimio,” Sifuna said.
Sifuna went on explaining why ODM has not exited the Azimio Coalition while citing Article 85 of the ODM party constitution.
“For ODM to exit a coalition, you require, under Article 85 of the Party Constitution, a resolution backed by two-thirds of the members of the executive committee of the party, and then you communicate to the Political Registrar, so that has not happened,” Sifuna explained.

Azimio leadership reshuffle
His remarks closely follow the leadership reshuffle by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.
The changes saw the Wiper leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, named as the new party leader following a joint meeting of the coalition’s top organs chaired by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The leadership changes, which have been necessitated by evolving political circumstances, were confirmed in correspondence from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), which acknowledged receipt of resolutions adopted during a joint session of the Azimio Council and the National Coalition Executive Council held on Monday, February 2, 2026.
“This Office acknowledges receipt of your letter dated 2nd February 2026, on the joint meeting of the Azimio Council and the National Coalition Executive Council of 2nd February 2026,” the letter signed by Registrar of Political Parties John Cox Lorionokou reads.
Kalonzo’s reaction
In response to the appointment, Kalonzo Musyoka accepted his appointment as party leader of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition, pledging to offer principled leadership focused on national renewal.
In a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Kalonzo thanked Azimio’s leadership for the trust bestowed upon him, describing the appointment as a responsibility that goes beyond personal ambition.
“I graciously accept my appointment as Party Leader of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition. I thank our chairman, President Uhuru Kenyatta, the coalition leadership, and all constituent parties for this trust. I congratulate my colleagues entrusted with various leadership positions,” Kalonzo stated.
The Wiper leader framed Azimio as a platform built on national ideals, saying the coalition remains anchored on justice, inclusivity and responsive governance.
