Kimilili Member of Parliament and Bungoma gubernatorial hopeful Didmus Barasa has continued his offensive charm towards Bungoma politicians by holding a meeting with his Kabuchai counterpart, Majimbo Kalasinga, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The United Democratic Alliance-allied lawmaker took to his X page to confirm the meeting that took place at his Nasianda home.

“This evening, I had a great catch-up session with Hon. Majimbo Kalasinga, M.P. for Kabuchai Constituency, at my Nasianda residence. Always refreshing to exchange thoughts and ideas with fellow leaders committed to the progress and well-being of our people,” the MP stated.

Whereas Barasa only stated the meeting involved a catch-up of two leaders focused on advancing the well-being of their people, much of it could be seen in the context of the recent political upheavals in Bungoma.

The meeting comes as Kalasinga, a former ally and staunch supporter of Moses Wetang’ula, seems to be drifting away and breaking ranks with the Ford Kenya supremo.

The MP has, in the recent past, joined the company of politicians who have taken an adversarial stance against the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Kenya Kwanza government.

Fires at Wetang’ula

Back in May 2025, the MP castigated Wetang’ula for visiting his constituency and holding a series of meetings with area MCAs within the constituency in his absence and without his knowledge.

Kalasinga remained adamant that he ought to have been notified of the visit.

“What shocked me was the speaker visiting Kabuchai without my knowledge. If anything had gone wrong — if the Speaker had been disrespected — the blame would have been put on me as though I planned it. I can’t question or correct Wetang’ula; he is my speaker and my party leader. But I should have been notified,” he insisted.

Meanwhile, Barasa’s move is also viewed as a silent strategy to woo individual politicians to his camp as he continues to lobby support for his gubernatorial bid.

Silent strategy

This is despite all eight MPs hailing from the county publicly endorsing Tim Wanyonyi’s bid for governor a month ago.

During the function held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Sirisia MP John Waluke, who serves as the leader of the Western MPs caucus, said that all nine elected MPs from Bungoma, apart from Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, had met and agreed to throw their weight behind Wanyonyi.

“As Bungoma people, we, the Members of Parliament who were elected from the county, have met to decide on the development of Bungoma County. All nine of us, except Didmus Wekesa Barasa, who has an interest in the Bungoma gubernatorial seat, have decided that Bungoma will not fall as we watch. We have decided that we will call all the MCAs on Thursday next week and meet them at the home of Tim Wanyonyi. All the 45 elected MCAs and all the nominated ones will meet to decide on the future of Bungoma. Bungoma will not get destroyed as the MCAs and elected MPs watch,” Waluke said.
