The Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party has escorted its candidate, Sammy Ngotho, to the Ol Kalou Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) constituency offices for clearance ahead of the mini-polls slated for July 16, 2026.

Notable leaders such as Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara, Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, and Senator John Methu were seen converging ahead of a procession to the IEBC offices to present their candidate. The leaders were in a jovial mood, displaying their anti-incumbency “Wantam” slogans and symbols ahead of the grand match.

“Olkalou, here we come. Today we present our DCP candidate, Hon. Sammy Douglas Kamau Ngotho, to IEBC for clearance.” Jayne Kihara says

This comes after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, Samuel Muchina, presented his credentials to the IEBC offices on Monday, May 25, 2026, where he was also accompanied by his party members and officials, paving the way for Sammy Ngotho to make his date with the IEBC. Sammy Ngotho emerged victorious in the DCP primaries, which were held on May 9, 2026, where he scooped a total of 12,587 votes.

The party has expressed confidence in Ngotho, saying that he will carry the day. According to the former Deputy President and DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua, Ngotho has already won the mini-poll, and what they are doing now is working on the margin.

Fundraising for Ngotho

Gachagua, during his visit to the United Kingdom last week, was seen pleading with Kenyans living in the diaspora to help fundraise for his campaign so that he can be able to cater to his logistics and crowd mobilisation.

He stated that Ngotho, despite being popular, is a young man who was fired from his office after being ousted, leaving him with nothing to do. He added that before embarking on the high-level visit to the UK, he was forced to get himself a pickup to help kick-start his Ol Kalou bid.

Gachagua appoints Methu

Gachagua also, after unveiling Nyandarua Senator John Methu as the party’s secretary general, tasked him with his initial assignment of delivering the Ol Kalou seat to the party.

He was also supposed to work in coordination with Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia in delivering the win to the party. Methu, on his side, has pledged that he will not let the party leader down and will move to ensure that he delivers the Ol Kalou seat to the party.

Meanwhile, Samuel Ngotho has already started his campaign, with him recently spotted traversing the constituency in a bid to secure victory. He has been accompanied by former Water Minister Cecil Kariuki, who is also seeking the Nyandarua gubernatorial seat. On the other side, the UDA party has expressed confidence in the candidate, saying that they must carry the seat just as they have done in past by-elections.
