Senator Methu: I must deliver the Ol Kalou seat
Nyandarua Senator John Methu has promised his party leader, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, that he will deliver the Ol Kalou seat to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
While speaking during the DCP leaders’ trip to the United Kingdom on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the outspoken Nyandarua senator vowed that the Ol Kalou seat is a must-win for the party.
Methu stated that he would not stay in the UK for long until Gachagua completes the tour, saying he plans to return to Nyandarua and join hands with Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia to set up an energetic campaign aimed at securing victory for the party.

“I am back at home, and together with Wanjiku Muhia, we will work and make sure that we deliver the Ol Kalou seat.”
He further told Gachagua that the people of Ol Kalou would not let him down because he understands the region and its voters well.
Significance of DCP victory
Methu added that a victory in Ol Kalou would mark the beginning of President William Ruto’s political journey back to Sugoi, as the opposition seeks to realise its “Wantam” ambition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
This also comes a day after Mathira MP took a swipe at the Ol Kalou by-election, saying that if DCP fails to win the seat, he will personally escort Gachagua back to UDA and force him to support President William Ruto.
Gachagua woos the international community
On the other side, Gachagua has urged the diaspora community living in the United Kingdom to help fundraise for Democracy for Citizens (DCP) candidate Kamau Ngotho’s Ol Kalou by-election bid.

While speaking in London on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the DCP leader urged Kenyans living abroad to chip in and bankroll Ngotho to help him manage his campaign.
Gachagua continued by narrating that he had employed the DCP candidate in his office while serving as deputy president, but upon his impeachment, Ngotho was also fired and has since been struggling to meet his needs.
The former deputy president further explained that Ngotho does not even own a car, forcing him, before jetting to the UK, to get him a pickup truck to assist with logistics during the popularisation of his bid.
DCP Ol Kalou nomination
This comes days after the DCP’s stellar performance in the party nominations compared to the UDA. What caught the attention of many was that the third runner-up in DCP, Peter Karanja, who scooped 3,919 votes, had more votes than the UDA winner, Samuel Muchina, who garnered 3,221 votes to clinch the party ticket.

This has been disputed by the UDA party, which blamed the low turnout in UDA nominations on the primaries being held on a weekday. They also accused the UDA of using the 2022 Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) register, which they claimed contributed to the high turnout.
Former UDA Secretary General Veronica Maina vowed that the real contest will be on the polling day on July 14, 2026.
