John Methu: No single Ol Kalou resident should be injured because of by-election
Nyandarua Senator John Methu has appealed for peace during the final days of campaigns for the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, saying no resident should be injured or lose their life because of politics.
Speaking in his capacity as DCP Secretary General on Sunday, July 12, 2026, Methu said the party remained committed to peaceful campaigns ahead of the Thursday, July 16, 2026, vote.
“As the Secretary General of DCP, I want to affirm that we are committed to maintaining peace during the remaining days before the Ol Kalou by-election,” Methu said.
He rejected the use of young people to confront rival political groups, maintaining that the party had not organised violence against its opponents.
“There is no single day that we have sat down to plan how our sons can be used to beat others,” he stated.
Peace before politics
Methu said the political contest should not leave any family nursing injuries or cause mourning a loved one.
“No single daughter or son of Ol Kalou should shed even a drop of blood. There should be no daughter or son of Ol Kalou who should be injured just because of a by-election,” he said.

The senator urged all political groups to allow residents to choose their preferred candidate without intimidation or interference.
“If Ol Kalou has decided to side with Sammy Kamau Ngotho, then let it be. Nobody has the authority to choose leaders for Ol Kalou. Let the people be,” Methu stated.
His remarks come amid heightened political tensions surrounding the contest, which has attracted national attention because of the rivalry between DCP and other parties seeking control of the constituency.
Methu said campaigns would close on Monday, July 13, 2026, to give residents time to reflect on their choices before polling day.
Government challenged
The senator placed responsibility for maintaining order on the government and security agencies, saying supporters from all political camps must receive equal protection.
“We want to tell the government that it is its responsibility to keep and maintain peace. Anyone belonging to DCP or the other side should be protected from any form of violence,” he said.
Methu also urged registered voters to participate in the election, warning that staying away from polling stations could allow leaders they oppose to take office.
“Bad leaders are elected by good people who do not come out to vote,” he said.
