Suba South Member of Parliament (MP) Caroli Omondi has urged Kenyans to embrace a new political direction, saying the country has reached a point where citizens must chart a better future beyond the politics that has dominated previous election cycles.

Speaking on Sunday, July 12, 2026, during the Linda Mwananchi church service at AIPCA Nyahururu Cathedral ahead of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election campaigns, Omondi rallied opposition supporters to remain united, declaring that the movement was determined to challenge ODM’s dominance in parts of the country while building what he termed a new political pathway.

Tunataka kufyeka wale wote wa ODM… miaka nenda, miaka rudi, it is time to find a good future. It is time to find a good pathway,” Omondi said.

Opposition rallies behind change

The senator said the Linda Mwananchi movement was bringing together leaders from different political backgrounds with the common goal of offering Kenyans an alternative leadership agenda ahead of the 2027 General Election.

As he addressed the congregation, Caroli Omondi also conveyed apologies from senior opposition leaders who were unable to attend the church service, saying they remained fully committed to the movement’s activities.

Among those who were not present were Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Siaya Governor James Orengo, who had also attended a church service in Kisumu

The service attracted several opposition leaders, including Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, Kisii Senator Anthony Kibagendi and Linda Mwananchi spokesperson Caroli Omondi, before the leaders proceeded with a town procession and public rally in Nyahururu.

Nyahururu tour gains momentum

The church service marked the official start of the Linda Mwananchi programme, which the opposition hopes will energise supporters ahead of the July 16, 2026 Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

The mini poll has become one of the country’s most closely watched political contests, with the opposition seeking to consolidate support in the Mt Kenya region while the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) fights to retain its influence.

Political stakes rise

Caroli Omondi’s remarks came as the opposition intensified efforts to project unity during the final days of campaigning.

Earlier on Sunday, July 12, 2026, former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria publicly welcomed the Linda Mwananchi tour, saying Kenya must protect democratic space and political competition.

The opposition maintains that the Linda Mwananchi campaign is intended to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and present what Osotsi described as “a good pathway” for Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Election.
