Paul Muite raises concern after DCP campaign truck is attacked
Constitutional lawyer Paul Muite has questioned whether the attack on a Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) campaign truck could signal possible political violence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Muite spoke on Sunday, July 12, 2026, a day after unidentified men vandalised the DCP-branded truck during political activities linked to the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
The vehicle was attacked at Pembroke in Nakuru County while travelling towards Gilgil. DCP officials described the attackers as armed and said guns and tear gas were used during the incident.

In a post on X, Muite questioned why no one had been apprehended following the attack.
He also accused the government of capturing key institutions, including the police, Parliament and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
“”goons” with guns & tear-gas?No arrests. The regime in power has captured the Police, Parliament, IEBC, etc.
“Is this primitive & brute violence in O’Kalau an indication of the violence this regime plans to unleash in the 2027 elections to cling onto power if rigging fails, as it increasingly looks more than likely?” Muite wrote.
Muite raises 2027 fears
Muite asked whether the incident was an early indication of the tactics that could be deployed during the 2027 elections.
His remarks add to growing political tensions surrounding the Ol Kalou contest, with DCP leaders demanding accountability over the destruction of their campaign vehicle.
Videos circulating online showed a group of people pelting the truck with stones and damaging parts of the vehicle.
The claims that guns and tear gas were used originated from DCP officials. The circumstances surrounding the incident had not been independently established by the time of publication.

By-election approaches
The Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election is scheduled for Thursday, July 16, 2026.
The vote has attracted national political attention as competing parties seek to demonstrate their influence in Nyandarua County and the wider Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 elections.
The byelection appears to be a two horse race pitting Kamau Ngotho of DCP on one side and Nyagah Muchina of UDA on the other side.
By the time of publication, the National Police Service and the government had not publicly responded to Muite’s accusations or provided an update on investigations into the attack.
Muite did not provide evidence in his post to support his assertions about institutional capture, planned election violence or possible rigging.
