The High Court has issued an order reinstating embattled Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, Vice Chair David Murathe and Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi.

The order comes almost a month after another order was issued by the same court setting aside a ruling by the Political Parties and Disputes Tribunal (PPDT).

The ruling by PPDT allowed the faction led by EALA MP Kanini Kega and nominated legislator Sabina Chege to institute leadership changes that saw Kioni, Murathe and Gichohi thrown out.

Lady Justice Asenath Ongeri, in a ruling dated August 7, 2023, ordered that the “status quo be maintained pending inter-parties hearing” on September 13, 2023.

In the changes instituted by the Kega-led faction, which has been considered a rebel group, Kega was appointed as the Party‘s acting Secretary General while Chege would serve as the acting party leader.

Eldas MP Adan Keynan had been appointed to replace Murathe as the National Deputy chairperson while Kitui South MP Rachael Nyamai had been appointed to replace Gichohi.

Mumina Bonaya had been appointed as the Women League National Chairperson to replace Fatuma Gedi.

The Kega faction had called for a National Delegates Convention (NDC) at the Bomas of Kenya on August 7, 2023, to ratify the changes, before a court order was issued.

Kioni-led faction will now retain leadership until the case is heard and determined.
