Church leaders are not corrupt – Ruto allies tell Uhuru

Ruto-allied politicians have hit back at President Uhuru Kenyatta, disabusing his remark concerning the integrity of certain religious leaders.
While speaking in Sagana, the Head of State chided at an unnamed group of preachers who he claimed had been dispatched to lie to Mt Kenya residents by a group of political leaders.
Uhuru claimed that the activities of the particular group of men of the cloth are financed by money stolen from the public coffers.
“Church leaders should stop lying to our people. Don’t lie to our people because you’ve been given money stolen from the public coffers. Such preachers will go to hell,” the President said.
In a rebuttal, Muranga senator Irungu Kang’ata maintained that he is not convinced by the President’s assertion that the church is corrupt. The vocal politician stated that the church is an institution that has existed for close to 2000 years and has for over the years, shaped the world’s morality levels.
“I refuse to believe the church in Kenya is corrupt. It is an institution that has been in this world for more than 2000 years. It has shaped our morality over centuries,” Kang’ata posted.
Former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale also weighed in on the debate, reiterating Kang’ata sentiments.
“Thank you Mr. President for handing over the support of the clergy to us. Hallelujah. But I must hasten to add that Mr. President you are wrong, the clergy is not corrupt,” Khalwale posted.
