Cherargei warns Sifuna after ODM’s stand on opening talks with UDA
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has welcomed the start of pre-election agreement talks between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He described the move as a strategic step towards forming a strong coalition.
In a statement shared on X on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, Cherargei praised the ODM leadership for engaging UDA early to chart a path for the next elections.

“I congratulate the ODM Party for the wise Solomonic decision to begin Pre-election agreement talks with my party United Democratic Alliance (UDA), immediately aboutthe 2027 General elections and beyond,” Cherargei said.
He assured that UDA members would fully support the agreement, which he said aims to create a winning ticket for the 2027 presidential race.
“We as members of UDA will give all the support to ensure the success of this pre-coalition agreement between the ODM party and other like-minded partners to form a formidable winning ticket of Ruto-Kindiki in the 2027 Presidential Elections,” he added.

Warning to Sifuna
Cherargei also used the statement to issue a warning to ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of undermining the broad-based government.
“Finally I warned early enough that secretary General of ODM Sifuna is on borrowed time before being removed for being a saboteur of the broadbased government and this should be done expeditiously unless he atones for his canonical sins immediately as remains as an ordinary member of the party as the saying goes: ‘You can only play with your mother’s breasts but not your father’s testicle/balls,'” Cherargei said.
ODM on formal negotiations
ODM announced the start of formal negotiations with other political groups during the Central Committee meeting in Kilifi County on Monday, January 12, 2026, as it prepares for the 2027 general election.
The committee instructed ODM leader, Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, to lead structured discussions, beginning with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Members of the party will also be consulted, with all talks aimed at shaping a National Delegates Convention. The party stressed that it must act swiftly to be ready for the upcoming elections.

The directive comes as ODM strengthens its preparations for next year’s vote, focusing on policy development, organisational readiness, coalition building, and candidate selection. The party intends not only to compete but to position itself to form the next government.
