Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has warned Kenyan activists against meddling in the internal affairs of other countries, stressing that such actions could put fellow Kenyans living and working abroad at risk.

In a statement shared on X posted on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Cherargei emphasised that foreign interference could jeopardise the peaceful lives of Kenyans abroad. The senator highlighted the need for restraint and respect for the sovereignty of other nations.

“It looks like our busy-body activists never learn their lessons very well. Why would anyone want to interfere with the local politics and issues of other friendly countries, yet those countries have never interfered with our own local issues,” Senator Cherargei said. He added that such interference should not be tolerated. “This affirms my position that we shouldn’t allow any of these activists to export bad manners to other countries,” he stated.

Cherargei further noted that the actions of a few could have far-reaching consequences for many. “Many Kenyans continue to live and work peacefully in those countries without any problems. If this is allowed, it will affect Kenyans who continue to live and work for unnecessary scrutiny,” he warned.

The senator’s caution comes amid growing reports of Kenyan activists engaging in campaigns or protests that touch on the domestic politics of other nations. Also, this comes as activist Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo were held in captivity for more than a month. Cherargei argued that while activism is important, it must not compromise the safety and reputation of Kenyans abroad.

He called on citizens to focus on constructive engagement at home rather than exporting conflict to friendly nations, urging respect for international norms and the principle of non-interference.

Cherargei’s comments underline a broader concern about how individual actions abroad can reflect on Kenya’s global image and affect diplomatic relations. By issuing the warning, the senator seeks to protect the country’s citizens and ensure that activism is carried out responsibly, without endangering the lives and livelihoods of Kenyans living overseas.
