Caroli Omondi: I will never vie for any seat on an ODM ticket

By , March 23, 2026

Suba South Member of Parliament (MP) Caroli Omondi has vowed that he will never again vie for an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.

While speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Monday, March 23, 2026, the now Azimio la Umoja secretary general made it clear that he is currently in his final days within ODM.

He added that he has now chosen to practise what the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga believed in and taught him, even outside the ODM party, noting that it is not a must for one to uphold Raila’s ideals while being inside the party.

“ODM will splinter in a few months… I will not run on the ODM ticket again; I’m on my way out of the party.”

With the current ODM wrangles appearing to escalate daily, Caroli Omondi foresaw a major split in the near future that could fragment the party into two parts.

According to him, one faction will remain with the official ODM documents, while the other will walk away with the supporters, as it represents those who believe in Raila’s ideologies.

He further claimed that the ODM party, which he described as Raila’s party, was ‘sold’ in December in Transmara. He added that although he had been invited to that meeting, he declined to attend.

ODM woes

This comes amid turbulent times within ODM, which now finds itself at a crossroads following Raila’s death, leading to the emergence of two rival factions: “Linda Ground”, led by Oburu Odinga, and “Linda Mwananchi”, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

The rivalry has triggered a push-and-pull between the two groups, each seeking to outmanoeuvre the other, with Sifuna’s faction insisting that it will not allow the soul of ODM to be handed over to the state.

Azimio la Umoja

Meanwhile, Caroli Omondi was recently appointed by Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition chairman Uhuru Kenyatta as the secretary general of Azimio la Umoja, taking over from Suna East MP Junet Mohammed. He is also set to replace him as the coalition’s parliamentary caucus chair.

The Oburu Odinga-led ODM faction has responded by stating that they left Azimio long ago and are now awaiting the National Delegates Conference (NDC) to formally ratify the decision.
