Caleb Amisi castigates political coalitions amid broad-based govt formation

By , November 19, 2025

Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has castigated political coalitions witnessed in Kenya since independence, saying partnerships between parties and alliances has never solved major economic problems facing the country.

The vocal legislator’s assertions come at a moment when the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and Kenya Kwanza administration, led by President William Ruto, sealed a working agreement with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in the broad-based government formation.

The UDA-ODM working formula was founded based on the mission of stabilising the economy, addressing social challenges, and promoting national integration. The broad-based government was also founded in 2025, with President Ruto and the late ODM leader Raila Odinga vowing to restore calm after a series of nationwide protests over rampant human rights violations and the economic stalemate.

The deal also emphasised economic empowerment of the youth, integrity in leadership, and the right to peaceful assembly, principles that both leaders said would strengthen democracy and heal divisions across the country. The implementation of the National Dialogue Committee report on the highlighted issues was to be the backbone of the broad-based government.

‘Meaningless’ political coalitions

However, MP Caleb Amisi has argued that such political alignments add no value to the life of a common citizen.

”Since Kenya gained independence, the same political dinosaurs have taken Kenyans through a roller coaster, building coalitions and political friendship based on deceit and tribal arithmetic and not on identical ideals and principles,” Amisi took to X on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

”Making coalitions pre and post elections, breaking the very formations, making new formations with perceived enemies, reconnecting again when interests align, and the circle goes on between the same known individuals or their kins for the last 65 years,” he asserted.

Recent political coalitions

In recent years, Kenya has witnessed several notable political coalitions before and after heated general elections, as the warring groups vowed to bury the hatchet and work for the country.

”Whether it is Azimio, Kenya Kwanza, NASA, NARC, CORD, TNA/URP, or One Kenya alliances, the story and history are replete. And Kenya has never gone through any meaningful economic metamorphosis. This must stop in our lifetime. We owe it to the future generation a reformed country. ” Caleb Amisis said.

Meanwhile, UDA has vowed to honour the late ODM party leader, Raila Odinga, by implementing the 10-point agenda birthed by President William Ruto before his death on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
