Bobi Wine says officers who protected him during campaigns now arrested
By Kiprono Keileb, March 11, 2026Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has claimed that police officers who were assigned to protect his presidential campaign are once again facing arrest and interrogation by authorities.
In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Bobi Wine said the officers are being targeted despite what he described as their professionalism while performing their duties during and after the 2021 election period.
The opposition politician first recalled the difficult environment surrounding the 2021 election, saying officers attached to his campaign were exposed to violence while trying to carry out their responsibilities.

“In the 2021 election, the police officers who were attached to our campaign were attacked violently and subjected to all manner of brutality,” the statement reads.
He further said the challenges did not end after the elections, noting that several officers were later arrested and detained for a long time.
According to Wine, some of the detained officers were reportedly questioned about details surrounding his campaign activities and internal operations.
“After the election, several of them including their head, Afande K,ato were arrested and detained for a long period. We learnt that they were questioned about our sources of funding, who I was meeting, what our plans were,” the statement reads.
The former presidential candidate also claimed that investigators pressed the officers about their actions during tense moments when clashes occurred.

“They were also interrogated about why they always sought to protect us from violent attacks by other sections of the police and military,” Bobi Wine’s statement on X reads.
Bobi Wine said that several years later, similar actions appear to be taking place again, with reports that some of the same officers have recently been arrested.
“Now, 2026, we have learnt that the officers who were attached to our campaign have also been arrested, and are being interrogated,” she wrote.
He expressed concern over what he described as repeated targeting of officers who were simply doing their work of providing security. Wine ended his message by urging supporters and the wider public to stand with the officers and call for their release.
“These officers are usually targeted for doing their job with professionalism and patriotism. May we all stand in solidarity with them, and work for their freedom,” Bobi Wine said.
