Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has raised concerns over the whereabouts of opposition MP Muwanga Kivumbi, claiming that the lawmaker has been missing for 10 days after he was abducted

In a post shared on his X account on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, Wine said he had received reports that Kivumbi was tortured at Kasenyi Special Forces Command (SFC) military barracks and was being kept away from the public

“We’ve received disturbing reports alleging that Muwanga Kivumbi was tortured to near death at Kasenyi SFC military barracks and is now being hidden from the public while receiving treatment before he can be produced,” Wine said.

Wine demands answers

The opposition leader said the reports should not be ignored, citing previous cases in which opposition figures were allegedly detained away from public view

“These reports cannot be dismissed lightly. Many of us have gone through similar ordeals at the hands of this regime and were deliberately hidden from the public until our wounds and the evidence of torture had faded,” he said

Wine said Kivumbi, whom he described as the Deputy President of the Buganda region, was allegedly abducted in broad daylight and had not been seen since

“Neither the police nor the army have accounted for his whereabouts,” he said

Wine ended his message with a direct question to Ugandan authorities.

“Where is Hon Muwanga Kivumbi?” he asked

Wine previously went into hiding

The latest remarks come months after Wine said he had gone into hiding following Uganda’s disputed 2026 presidential election

In March, he said he had left Uganda for what he described as critical engagements outside the country after spending nearly two months in hiding

“Two months ago, Museveni yet again usurped the will of the people of Uganda and declared himself president on gunpoint,” Wine said at the time

He also claimed that security forces had raided his home and searched for him across the country after he rejected the election results

Opposition leader accused government

Wine said he had left the country temporarily to seek international support for his political struggle and lobby foreign governments and organisations

He also accused security agencies of targeting his allies and members of his family during the search for him

The opposition leader maintained that he won the 2026 presidential election, although Uganda’s Electoral Commission declared long-serving President Yoweri Museveni the winner

Wine rejected the results and accused the government of manipulating the vote

His latest statement has renewed concerns over the whereabouts of Kivumbi, with Wine calling on the police and military to account for the opposition lawmaker.
