The Linda Mwananchi movement is set to descend on Nakuru County this Sunday, April 19, 2026.

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino confirmed the planned Nakuru Edition rally, demonstrating an escalation in the movement’s nationwide tour, which has recently held rallies in Mombasa, Kitengela, and Narok.

“Naks hoooyeee? Tunakuja Nakuru,” Babu Owino wrote on his Facebook page on Monday, April 6, 2026.

The movement, spearheaded by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, and Siaya Governor James Orengo, continues to position itself as the “voice of the people” amidst shifting political alliances within the traditional opposition ranks.

Birth of Linda Mwananchi

Linda Mwananchi broke from the ODM party after the Orange party, which has been in existence for over two decades, saw its leaders divided on which direction the party should take in preparation for the 2027 election.

This led to two factions: one led by the party leader Oburu Odinga, dubbed ODM Linda Ground, and the other led by Edwin Sifuna, all aiming to outdo each other.

The two factions have been having rallies across the country with aims of selling their agendas to Kenyans ahead of the 2027 polls.

The Linda Mwananchi rally began in Busia, followed by Kitengela and then Kakamega. After this, they took a brief break before resuming political activities with a rally in Narok town.

A week later, they went to the coast at Tononoka Grounds on March 29, 2026, where they continued to draw huge crowds.

Internal fight in ODM

Internal disagreements within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have since created a pronounced split, with Sifuna and his allies being critical of ODM leaders who are exploring collaboration with President William Ruto’s ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The faction insists that ODM should remain firmly in opposition to Ruto’s government and has indicated that it may pursue independent strategies in the 2027 elections.

On the other hand, the party’s leadership under Oburu Oginga, often called the Linda Ground faction, appears more inclined to consolidate ODM structures and explore strategic alliances, including potential cooperation with the executive side.
