‘Baba huu ndio wakati’- Babu Owino advises Raila to drop AUC bid, occupy State House
Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has advised Azimio leader Raila Odinga to drop his African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship candidature and occupy State House.
Babu Owino who was speaking during the burial ceremony of comedian Fred Omondi in Sega village in Usenge, Siaya County on Saturday, June 29, 2024, told Raila that this is the right time for him to occupy the house on the hill.
The comedian’s burial event was attended by Raila, Siaya Governor James Orengo, National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, and Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o among other Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders.
“Nikimalizia nataka niseme yakwamba baba yetu ni Raila Amollo Odinga. Kwa hivo Baba hii ni wakati wa Baba. In fact Baba angewachana na hii mambo ya AUC. Baba twende State House sahii, hii ndio wakati,” Babu Owino said as mourners cheered him.
Raila moment
The youthful controversial lawmaker wants Raila to capitalize on the political tension caused by the recent anti-government protests to occupy State House.
Babu Owino further commended the youth for occupying parliament during the Tuesday, June 25, 2024 protests against the controversial Finance Bill, 2024, which has since been rejected by President William Ruto.

The MP cracked up mourners when he remarked that he had invited the youth to parliament for a cup of tea, only for them to end up eating ugali and rice.
“When you are hungry your stomach will alert you, but when you are stupid, your brain will not alert you. Now, Gen Zs, I want to thank you very much for bringing change to this country. Niliwainvite parliament, mkakuja, niliwainvite chai lakini mkakuja mkakula pia ugali na mchele. Nataka niwaulize swali moja, mliona penye niliwawekea pilipili na chumvi?” Babu Owino said amid cheers.
Babu Owino’s Gen Z coalition
He went ahead to propose for a coalition of Gen Zs and millennials, which he said will bring the changes the country needs.
The lawmaker pointed out that the coalition’s first mission will be to ensure that President Ruto leaves State House.
“Very soon, we are going to form a coalition of Gen Zs and millennials, because in this country, we were promised many things. We were promised heaven and we have been delivered to hell and therefore, there must be changes and the first change is to ensure that Ruto leaves State House,” Babu Owino said.
Babu Owino also took the opportunity to encourage comedian Eric Omondi to vie for a parliamentary seat in 2027.
He noted that the comedian has been doing a lot of good things for Kenyans and it is now the right time for him to seek a parliamentary seat and fight for people’s needs in parliament.
