Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has outlined his political plan, announcing that he will contest for Nairobi governor, serve only one term, and later vie for the presidency in 2032.

Speaking in Kisumu on April 26, 2026, during activities linked to the Linda Mwananchi movement, Owino said, “Mimi kama Babu naenda Nairobi governorship term moja kisha 2032, ntaenda presidency.”

The remarks were made during a series of mobilisation events attended by opposition figures, including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Siaya Governor James Orengo.

The leaders had earlier participated in a church service at Triumphant Christian Church in Nyalenda, Kisumu, ahead of a planned rally by the movement.

Political mobilisation

The Linda Mwananchi movement has been conducting nationwide mobilisation meetings, with previous engagements held in Nakuru before shifting focus to Kisumu. The gatherings have brought together several opposition-aligned leaders who have been coordinating political messaging ahead of the 2027 elections.

During the Kisumu visit, Sifuna praised Owino’s rise in politics, linking it to his background. “Babu ni ishara kwamba Mungu anaweza kukuinua kutoka mahali ukiwa chini, akufikishe mahali,” Sifuna said.

He noted Owino’s upbringing in Nyalenda, where his mother engaged in small-scale alcohol brewing, contrasting it with his current position in national politics.

Security concerns and

Owino had earlier raised concerns over cited intimidation linked to his political activities. On April 22, 2026, he claimed that Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers were targeting his security personnel ahead of the Kisumu rally. “They are sending DCI officers to arrest my security officer… in an attempt to frustrate the Kisumu rally,” he said in a social media post.

He further asserted that his aide, Oliver Ochieng, and Ochieng’s wife were previously arrested and assaulted by officers in February, describing the incidents as attempts to disrupt the Linda Mwananchi mobilisation efforts.

Campaign developments in Kisumu

During the Kisumu events, the political atmosphere remained tense as leaders continued their mobilisation activities. Owino reportedly intervened when individuals linked to political operatives were directed to leave the venue, with the group complying without confrontation.

The MP has maintained that the mobilisation is aimed at strengthening citizen engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
