National Election Board Chairperson of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, Anthony Mwaura, has assured members that the upcoming grassroots leaders’ elections will be free and fair.

Mwaura said the party has put in place the necessary strategies to ensure that the exercise, slated for 10 January 2026, will run smoothly.

Speaking during a delegates’ meeting in Murang’a on Monday, 15 December 2025, Mwaura said members will be electing representatives to spearhead the party’s agenda at the grassroots level.

He noted that the process is part of preparations for the 2027 General Election, during which the party will field candidates for all elective positions.

“I am assuring members that the grassroots leaders’ elections will be transparent, and there should be no fear of interference by other leaders,” Mwaura said.

“We want members to elect leaders who are known to them, as this will make coordination of party affairs much easier,” he added.

Mwaura also urged residents of the Mt Kenya region to rally behind the party and its leaders, cautioning them against being lured into joining the opposition.

“This party was born and nurtured in this region; therefore, we should own it and support the government of the day because we are part of it,” he remarked.

“I am confident that this is the party that will once again win the 2027 election, giving this government another term to continue serving the people,” Mwaura added.

Other leaders present, including Woman Representative Betty Maina, Maragua Member of Parliament Mary Waithira and nominated Senator Veronica Maina, defended the government, saying it has delivered significantly in terms of development.

The leaders vowed to continue supporting the government, noting that they had worked hard to put it in place and that it must remain to ensure citizens continue enjoying the benefits.

“We are not supporting the President because he has told us to do so; we are doing so because we have seen the work he is doing for the people,” Maina said.

“The opposition is trying very hard to discredit the government by claiming it has done nothing, which is not the case,” she added.

On her part, the Maragua MP urged residents to register as party members and to woo back those who have shifted to other parties, saying the party’s strength lies in numbers.

“We are urging you to register as members and recruit more people into the party because we need these numbers during the polls,” Waithira said.

“We want to strengthen the party and ensure that we win the election by a landslide in 2027,” she added.
