Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has made it clear that he will end his political association with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) should former Prime Minister Raila Odinga declare his support for President William Ruto in the 2027 race.

Speaking in his constituency on Sunday, August 3, 2025, the second-term legislator openly stated that any form of endorsement for Ruto by Raila would mark the end of their long-standing relationship.

Amisi reflected on the political journey he has shared with Raila, describing himself as one of Raila’s most loyal young allies.

He recounted how he had fought alongside Raila during difficult moments, including protests where he faced tear gas and life-threatening situations.

He recalled an incident where he nearly lost his life in a vehicle after being overwhelmed by tear gas, noting that even senior leaders such as James Orengo had left him behind during those chaotic scenes.

The MP emphasised that all the struggles and sacrifices he has endured while standing by Raila would mean nothing if Raila were to form a political alliance with Ruto.

He said that such a move would completely sever his ties with Raila, whom he has consistently defended and supported throughout his political career.

Mimi Caleb Amisi ukiamua kuunga Mkono William Ruto, baba that will be the end of me and you,  nirudie nisirudie Mimi Caleb Amisi Kijana wake wa pekee, Kijana amekupigania nikapigwa teargass karibu nikufie kwa gari wakina Orengo Wakaniacha” Caleb stated.

Sifuna’s take on the same

During the same event, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna also issued a strong warning to the party, saying that he will not be part of the decision if the party decides to endorse President William Ruto’s re-election.

Sifuna stated that his convictions would not allow him to support a candidate whose governance he has consistently opposed. The Nairobi senator insisted that party loyalty must never override an individual’s principles.

“I assure ODM supporters that my stance remains,” he declared. “Raila himself has said that this is a democratic party and any member is free to speak their mind. Yet some thugs claim I cannot hold independent views simply because I’m secretary-general.”

Sifuna emphasised his unwavering stance, declaring, “Ile siku ODM watasema ati wanaenda na Kasongo, hio siku siko ndani. Mimi siko ndani kabisa.”

Sifuna’s remarks come in the wake of growing speculation that ODM may formally align with President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) under the ‘broad-based’ government deal, which has seen some opposition figures join the current administration.
