Aladwa dismisses speculation of teaming up with Moses Kuria for 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial contest
Makadara Member of Parliament (MP) George Aladwa has scoffed at claims of deputising Chama Cha Kazi party leader Moses Kuria in the Nairobi gubernatorial race in the 2027 polls.
Speaking on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, during the launch of Raila Odinga’s classrooms, he dismissed the claims, saying that he shall vie for the gubernatorial seat under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
“I have said that I will not be Moses Kuria’s deputy; I will be vying for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat under the ODM party in 2027,” Aladwa said.
The MP said that if Kuria insists on vying for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat, he should be ready to face him in the ballot in 2027.

This comes after the former Cabinet Secretary and ex-Presidential Advisor formally unveiled the Makadara MP as his running mate in the 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial race, marking one of the earliest and most unexpected political pairings ahead of the next General Election.
Kuria, who announced his candidacy in October 2025, said his choice of Aladwa was driven purely by a shared commitment to transforming Nairobi, not by ethnicity or party affiliation.
“Not because of our tribes. Not because of our parties. Because we care for Nairobi. Because we understand what Nairobians are going through. Because we have local, regional and global networks to fix Nairobi,” Kuria wrote on his X.
“Because we have many years of combined leadership and managerial experience. Because we are not tribal. Because we have what it takes to MAKE NAIROBI WORK AGAIN.”
But in his response, the ODM Nairobi chairman explained his political achievements and service to Nairobi residents, claiming that he has all it takes to lead Nairobi.

Nairobi contest
The timing of the declarations aligns with what they say: there is a need to make the capital city great again.
For instance, Kuria said he was moved by President William Ruto’s candid remarks on the deteriorating state of the capital city, remarks that highlighted governance breakdowns, service delivery failures, and persistent financial mismanagement at City Hall.
He argued that Nairobi risks losing its potential as a regional economic powerhouse unless drastic reforms are undertaken.

Kuria said the sentiments have been shared with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and he is ready to get the job done.
“Dear President William Ruto. Today you spoke to my heart. Like Prime Minister Baba Raila Amolo Odinga has told me countless times, Nairobi cannot continue to be the city of filth, garbage and incompetence,” Kuria wrote on X.
“I have heard your cry. That is why I will offer myself to be the Governor of the great County of Nairobi in 2027. I will fix Nairobi.”
